HARTFORD – State Representative Irene Haines (R-34) issued the following statement in response to the announcement from Education Committee Co-Chair Rep. Jennifer Leeper (D-132) that no legislation regarding homeschooling will move forward during the current legislative session:

“As your State Representative, I want to share an important update from today’s Capitol Press Briefing. Rep. Jennifer Leeper announced that there will be no legislation concerning homeschooling this session. This is welcome news and a temporary victory for educational freedom in Connecticut.

While this pause offers relief to homeschooling families, it is not a time for complacency. Issues like these have a way of resurfacing, and I urge families across the state to remain engaged and alert.

I commend our dedicated homeschooling community for speaking up and standing firm in defense of parental rights and educational choice. Despite lacking formal representation in the policymaking process, your voices were heard loud and clear. Your advocacy has made a meaningful impact and will continue to shape the future of homeschooling in Connecticut.

I remain committed to keeping families informed and will continue to stand with you in defending your right to direct your children’s education.”
