HARTFORD – Using key pieces of business-related legislation to rank state lawmakers during the 2019 legislative session, the Connecticut Business and Industry Association recently highlighted State Representative Irene Haines’ (R-34) perfect 100% score.

“Getting our state economy growing again is among my highest priorities,” Rep. Haines said. “We need to listen more to what our local job creators are telling us about their workforce needs, burdensome or out dated regulations, and our high costs of doing business. Connecticut continues to lag behind the country and other Northeastern states when it comes to jobs, opportunity and income growth. I was proud to support legislation that will have a positive impact on our job creators and fight against bills that hurt local employers.”

Each year, the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) ranks state lawmakers based on their support for the business community’s positions. This session, six important bills made it to the House for a vote, including SB 854 to increase vocational training and SB1030 reforming the state’s transfer act and streamlining environmental remediation projects. She opposed some measures, including the state budget which raises taxes on small businesses and a variety of goods from safety apparel to restaurant meals, plastic bags, rideshare services and much more.

All of the scored bills impact job creation, small business growth and economic stability in Connecticut.

The scorecard was calculated with selected pieces of legislation and may reflect votes from committee, the House, or both. The complete CBIA scorecard can be viewed here: https://www.cbia.com/resources/issues-policies/ct-voting-records/2019-ct-state-house-voting-records/
