Cheeseman & Haines Hails State Grants for East Lyme & Salem

HARTFORD- State Rep. Holly Cheeseman (R-37) and Irene Haines (R-34) today announced that the State has awarded two Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grants one each to East Lyme and Salem for the continued improvement of local roadway infrastructure and repairs to the Town Hall.

East Lyme is slated to receive $500,000 in state funding for the renovation and construction Plants Dam. This will be matched by $137,900 in town funds.

Salem is slated to receive $198,000 in state funding for improvements to their Town Hall. This will be matched by $49,700 in town funds.

“I am pleased the Office of Policy and Management recognized the need for these important investments as East Lyme and Salem continue to improve the safety and accessibility for all residents,” Rep. Cheeseman said. “I want to thank the governor for including these critical local projects in this latest round of grant funding.”

“This grant will offer substantial funding for the necessary Salem Town Hall upgrades,” Rep. Irene Haines said. “These STEAP grants are so important to our small towns across Connecticut, and we are very thankful that Salem’s application was approved.”

By law, STEAP grants can only be used for capital projects, such as new construction or expansion, renovation or replacement for an existing facility or facilities. The grants are coordinated by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management.

The grants are provided through the Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), a state program managed by the Office of Policy and Management (OPM) that delivers grants to small towns for economic development, community conservation, and quality-of-life capital projects.
