    This weekend, we are reminded of the focus, determination and courage of those patriots who believed passionately that our nascent country deserved a better form of government, one that acknowledged “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

    Two hundred and forty-four years ago, on July 4, 1776, these patriots put forth The Declaration of Independence.  This document has not only remained relevant over centuries, but it also remains a guiding light in our country and history. I feel grateful every day to live in a democracy that is alive and vibrant – the exact vision our forefathers conceived.
