Hartford is proposing to take over local zoning and land use from the towns of this state. Under the guise of reducing racism and “desegregation” the legislature is considering multiple bills that would devastate the small towns of this state. Proposals include mandating every town allow four unit apartment buildings as of right on every lot in every residential zone in every town; eliminating minimum lot size; prohibiting towns from considering the character of their towns in their zoning regulations; mandating towns consider the impact of their zoning regulations on other towns; prohibit towns from using the the preservation of land values as a factor in their zoning regulation; mandating every town allow accessory apartments on every lot and cluster housing with a minimum density of no less than fifteen units per acre.  It only gets worse from there.

On Monday, March 15, 2021 at 10:00am the legislature’s Planning & Development Committee will hold a public hearing via Zoom on many of those proposals. I encourage the people who live in small towns to sign up and testify on these proposals.
