Rep. Cooley Celebrates ‘Read Across America’ Day

Posted on March 1, 2024

PLAINVILLE- State Representative Francis Rexford Cooley (R-22) visited Linden Street School on Friday morning to celebrate the 26th Annual Read Across America Day. The annual event is celebrated on Dr. Seuss’s birthday to teach children the importance and joy of reading.

Rep. Cooley read ‘Oh The Thinks You Can Think!’ by Dr. Seuss to the second graders.

“I want to thank the 2nd grade students in Ms. Dodenhoff’s class for allowing me to read in their class. I enjoyed seeing their wonderful smiles,” said Rep. Cooley, a fellow educator. “Reading is something we should celebrate daily. Once learned reading is skill that we can use continually, and students learn this at an early age.”

The National Education Association launched Read Across America in 1998 as a year-round program to celebrate reading. Given Dr. Seuss’ impact on the reading world, his birthday (March 2) was declared Read Across America Day. This also commences Read Across America Week and Read Across America Month.
