Rep. Chaleski Provides CT DOT Update About Route 39 Projects

Posted on April 11, 2024

Thank you to everyone who raised concerns recently about traffic and road flooding along Route 39. I’ve reached out to the Connecticut Department of Transportation to get some answers to your questions.

The traffic signal project on Clapboard Ridge Road at King Street is part of a larger, regional replacement project. Work at all intersections must be completed by June 6. CTDOT crews did have to test some soil this Winter and disposed of this Spring, but there is no designated staging area at this intersection.

The CTDOT drainage engineer has investigated the water coming from private property on Clapboard Ridge Road during recent heavy rains. The properties in the area slope toward the road so further investigation of drainage is needed.

The CTDOT installed double catch basins on Route 39 above Farm Street to catch runoff prior to last year’s paving project. The slope and plane of Route 39 is the same as prior to paving, according to the DOT. Farm Street is a City road and not in their purview, but noted that there are minimal catch basins on the road.

You can view all active CTDOT projects here.

Concerns about congestion on Mill Plain Road would have to go through a subdivision of the CTDOT known as OSTA, the Office of State Traffic Administration. The local traffic authority, in Danbury’s case the Chief of Police, could go to OSTA for a traffic study.

Anyone encountering maintenance issues on state roads, such as potholes, drainage problems, malfunctioning traffic signals, can report it to the DOT Customer Care Center at DOT.CustomerCare@ct.gov or 860-594-2560.
