HARTFORD – State Representatives Christie Carpino (Portland, Cromwell) and Devin Carney (Lyme, Old Lyme, Old Saybrook, Westbrook) joined CT Department of Transportation (DOT) officials and members of the legislature’s Transportation Committee on Friday for a tour of the ongoing construction work on the Arrigoni Bridge. The bridge is undergoing extensive rehabilitation work, and is now in stage three. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in late February of next year. Rep. Carpino also toured the main street area of Middletown, which is undergoing work to ease traffic conditions and improve safety for motorists and pedestrians.

“The Arrigoni Bridge is not only a major part of our transportation system in Portland, but it is also a historic landmark in our community,” said Rep. Carpino. “While ongoing construction work is never ideal, DOT has done an excellent job communicating with both local officials and the business community throughout this project.”

“As the ranking member of the legislatures Transportation Committee, Connecticut’s infrastructure is a top priority of mine,” Rep. Carney said. “It was great being able to get an up close look at the progress the Connecticut Department of Transportation is making on the Arrigoni bridge, and to talking directly with staff gave me a unique look into the day-to-day activities, planning, and budgeting that go into a major DOT project.”
