PORTLAND – The Red Cross reports that every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. The organization is in continual need of donations, which is why State Representative Christie Carpino (R-Cromwell) and State Senator Norm Needleman (D-Essex) sponsored a blood drive at the Waverly Senior Center on Monday, July 11. Rep. Carpino also participated in the event as a donor.
“I am so proud of our community’s participation and the fact that we were able to help the Red Cross make a positive impact on so many patients in need. Thank you to everyone that took the time to donate. I hope events like these inspire others to donate during future opportunities,” said Rep. Carpino.
According to the Red Cross, the event resulted in a collection of 35 pints of blood – enough resources to help 105 patients. Blood donations help accident victims, burn survivors, and many others with both acute and chronic needs.
“With a national shortage on blood donations, every blood drive and every donor can and will save lives,” said Sen. Needleman. “I encourage everyone eligible to donate to find a local blood drive and am happy our local community is working to help others.”
