Carpino & Needleman Praise Infrastructure Grant Awarded to Portland

The Town of Portland will receive a $525,775 grant through the Department of Transportation’s “Community Connectivity Grant Program” for infrastructure improvements to the sidewalks along Route 17 and Route 66.

The “Community Connectivity Grant Program” (CCGP) is an infrastructure improvement program that seeks to provide construction funding for local initiatives that will improve the safety and accessibility for bicyclists and pedestrians in urban, suburban and rural community centers. In Portland, the grant will specifically be used to improve connections to schools, businesses, healthcare facilities, churches, library, senior center, and other town services.

“This project will connect some of Portland’s key services in a time when we are relying more and more on our local communities,” said State Rep. Christie Carpino. “I look forward to the completion of the project and residents’ ability to more safely navigate the area by foot and bicycle and with more access to public transportation.”

“It’s fantastic news for the entire Portland community that these sidewalks will be installed,” said State Sen. Norm Needleman. “I’m grateful the project will be built in an underserved part of town and will connect pedestrians directly to local resources they use every day. It will benefit the entire town and I’m thankful to the state for investing in Portland.”
