Wrong Way Driving Prevention | Protecting Seniors From Financial Exploitation

The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Office of Engineering will be designing Wrong Way Detection Systems to be installed at 27 limited access highway off-ramps on Routes 2, 9, 95, and 395 deemed to be high risk for wrong way drivers.

This project will consist of installing pedestals, thermal and CCTV cameras, solar panels, cellular modems, internally illuminated signs, and signage.

The detection will then activate flashing red LED lights located on the borders of internally illuminated wrong-way signs alerting drivers that they are traveling in the wrong direction and need to take corrective action. Simultaneously, a notification by cellular modem will be sent to Connecticut State Police and CTDOT’s Highway Operations Center to make them aware of a potential wrong way driver.

I’m please to report that a bill I co-sponsored to help protect seniors from financial exploitation has been signed by the governor.

Public Act 23-161, will permit financial institutions and financial agents to take actions to suspend a transaction or disbursement of such funds if they believe it may involve, facilitate, result in, or contribute to financial exploitation.

This law will take effect July 1, 2024.
