Rep. Carney ToursThe Captain Stannard and The Westbrook Inn Bed and Breakfast

Connecticut’s tourism industry brings in about $4 billion a year, and not surprisingly, our beautiful shoreline is one of the state’s top attractions.
This afternoon, I had a chance to talk with Meri Wick, Owner of the The Captain Stannard and The Westbrook Inn Bed and Breakfast, to learn more about her locations and listen to any concerns and/or suggestions she may have to improve the industry for not only her locations but others around the state.
With their younger workforce heading off to college, and increases to the state’s minimum wage, finding individuals to fill their employment vacancies has been a bit of a challenge. We also discussed Connecticut having the highest occupancy tax rate in the country and similar constraints placed upon their industry that make doing business in Connecticut that much more difficult.
Meri also emphasized her desire to form partnerships with other local businesses (such as discounted services), that are mutually beneficial to one another.
With very reasonably priced nightly rates and a variety of services ranging from intimate events like tea parties to weekly “yacht rock nights,” guests of the Captain Stannard Bed & Breakfast and Westbrook Inn are sure to enjoy their stay!
