Women’s History Month Essay Contest with Students from Old Saybrook Middle School

Women’s History Month Essay Contest with Students from Old Saybrook Middle School
This article was archived from the previous WordPress site. Formatting and media should be close, but may not match the original post perfectly.

In recognition of Women’s History Month, I partnered with Old Saybrook Middle School for a 6th grade essay contest to highlight notable women from Connecticut and their impact on both the state and the life of the students.

Yesterday, I presented the winners Reid Goodale (overall winner) and Ava Becker (runner up) with a legislative citation to acknowledge their work in the contest and congratulate them on being chosen as the two winners. The school also provided the top six entrants with a gift certificate to Dairy Queen, a local woman owned business in Old Saybrook.

I’d like to thank Principal, Krista Bauchman, and 6th grade teacher Kevin Spedding for not only their support, but for also encouraging students to learn more about the contributions of Connecticut women in preparation for the contest.

This afternoon, I had a chance to talk with Meri Wick, Owner of the The Captain Stannard and The Westbrook Inn Bed and Breakfast, to learn more about her locations and listen […]
