Memorial Day arrives this weekend, and it is a time to reflect on the service of those who answered our nation’s call in times of armed conflict, and made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure future generations of Americans would remain free. One way to honor those who gave their lives for us is to attend one of the parades and/or ceremonies within the 23rd District.

    OBSERVANCES IN OUR TOWNS

LYME/OLD LYME: The Memorial Day parade will step off at the Lyme Street Fire Station and will proceed down Lyme Street and McCurdy Road to the Duck River Cemetary for a memorial service on Monday, May 29 starting at 11:00 a.m. In the event of rain, the parade will be canceled and an appropriate ceremony will be conducted at the Middle School Auditorium at 11 a.m. followed by refreshments at the Lyme Street Fire Station.

OLD SAYBROOK: A Dockside Wreath-Laying Ceremony will take place at9:00 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Saybrook Point. The ceremony will be followed by the Memorial Day Parade that will step off at 10:00 a.m. from the Stop & Shop parking lot and continue down Elm Street and Main Street to the Veterans Memorial Monuments on the Town Green where another ceremony will take place. In the event of rain, please check the Town of Old Saybrook’s website for information on any changes.

WESTBROOK: The Memorial Day Parade will begin and end in the parking behind the former town hall (Riggio Building) on Monday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. Rain or Shine.

I wish you and your family the best this Memorial Day weekend and, if you are a veteran, I want to thank you for your service to our country. I hope to see many of you on Monday.

    Sincerely,

    Devin Carney

Connecticut’s tourism industry brings in about $4 billion a year, and not surprisingly, our beautiful shoreline is one of the state’s top attractions. This afternoon, I had a chance to talk with Meri Wick, Owner of the The Captain Stannard and The Westbrook Inn Bed and Breakfast, to learn more about her locations and listen […]
