    Testifying on Bills

    Testifying on Bills
This article was archived from the previous WordPress site. Formatting and media should be close, but may not match the original post perfectly.

As we begin the process of going through bills in public hearings, if you have opinions on these issues or any other bills that are being raised, I urge you to submit written testimony or come to Hartford for a public hearing.

You will need to know the number of the bill that your concerns pertain to. To find that information out, just call my office at 1-800-842-1423 or e-mail me at Devin.Carney@housegop.ct.gov.

The Connecticut General Assembly’s website (www.cga.ct.gov) will allow you to retrieve the bill status information on the bill you are interested in, including current text, up-to-date actions on the bill, introducer, statement of purpose and co-sponsors. Public notice of a public hearing on a specific bill is five calendar days. The notice will provide you the bill number, the time and location of the hearing.

If you plan to testify make sure your remarks are clear and concise. Many committees limit testimony to accommodate everyone that wants to speak. Written testimony should be turned in before the hearing begins. It will then become part of the permanent legislative record. This process is due to the deadlines in which committees can hold public hearings and meet to discuss issues.

It is important for you to be aware of the new security measures recently installed in the Connecticut State Capitol and Legislative Office Building, as this will affect your access into the building, Click Here for information on which entrances will permit access to visitors.

Again, if you have concerns on any issue at all I strongly urge you to provide testimony. Your voice matters and it can most certainly have an impact. As always, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns about our state government.

Regardless of how many times I’ve attended Vista Life Innovations, Inc. graduation ceremonies over the years, I can honestly say that it remains one of the most rewarding events I get the privilege of being a part of. Connecticut’s tourism industry brings in about $4 billion a year, and not surprisingly, our beautiful shoreline is one of the state’s top attractions. This afternoon, I had a chance to talk with Meri Wick, Owner of the The Captain Stannard and The Westbrook Inn Bed and Breakfast, to learn more about her locations and listen […]
