State Representative Elect Devin Carney (R-23) joined the Salvation Army’s annual “Red Kettle Campaign” on December 16th outside of Wal-Mart in Old Saybrook.

Over the course of an hour, Rep-Elect Carney participated in the time honored tradition of ‘Ringing the Bell’ as he greeted holiday shoppers.  Carneys’ volunteer efforts raised $75.89. Combined with the dollar-for-dollar matching contribution from Wal-Mart, the total raised was $151.78.

For the past six years the House Republican Caucus together with The Salvation Army has raised over $100,000.

“I’m pleased to donate my time volunteering for such a worthwhile cause,” said Rep-Elect Carney of his experience partnering with the Salvation Army and Wal-Mart.  “I would like to express gratitude to all of those who’ve supported the efforts of the Red Kettle Campaign today and throughout the holiday season.  I understand that the holidays can put a financial squeeze on nearly all of us, I appreciate those who donated – a prime example where a little goes a long way.”

Rep. Carney was joined by Kathy Orfitelli, Director of Volunteer Resources, The Salvation Army of Southern New England Division.

“The Salvation Army East Middlesex County Service Unit is very grateful to the Republican Party, specifically Representative-Elect Devin Carney, for support in helping us to sustain our programs locally,” said Orfitelli.

The Red Kettle Campaign collects donations from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. Funds raised go to local Salvation Army centers and help provide holiday dinners, clothing and toys for families in need. Funding sometimes stretches beyond the holiday season and donations can provide aid for families, seniors and the homeless throughout the year.

Connecticut’s tourism industry brings in about $4 billion a year, and not surprisingly, our beautiful shoreline is one of the state’s top attractions. This afternoon, I had a chance to talk with Meri Wick, Owner of the The Captain Stannard and The Westbrook Inn Bed and Breakfast, to learn more about her locations and listen […]
