Rep. Carney Tours 30 Mile Brewing Company in Old Saybrook

OLD SAYBROOK – State Representative Devin Carney toured 30 Mile Brewing Company in Old Saybrook on Saturday, October 7 to learn about and promote local businesses.

The brewery is located at 39 Ragged Rock Road (Unit #5) in Old Saybrook. 30 Mile Brewing Company hand crafts all of their beers in a five barrel system using only the highest quality ingredients.

30 Mile Brewing Company was founded by Old Saybrook resident Luke Maynard, an entrepreneur and home brewer who decided to take his hobby to the next level. Devon Landry is co-owner of 30 Mile Brewing Company, and joins Maynard in running the company. It is their hope to expand their current operation soon. Landry explained that local brewers are currently working together to promote the area and they meet up monthly at the Connecticut Brewer’s Guild to discuss recipes, legislation and pertinent information with other brewers.

“I am thrilled to have a craft brewery right here in Old Saybrook started by an Old Saybrook resident,” Rep. Carney said. “Craft breweries have been popping up across the state and country, which have helped to create thousands of jobs, so it is great to see 30 Mile Brewing Company be a part of that. They have been a welcome addition to our local economy.”

According to Campaign for Tomorrow’s Jobs, the number of craft breweries in Connecticut has tripled since 2011 and has boosted local economies and created hundreds of new jobs. Representative Carney has supported legislation over the past few years to encourage growth and help the industry including allowing local restaurants to sell craft beer to customers in growlers and by co-sponsoring legislation to create a farm brewer manufacturer’s permit. This legislation allows brewers to make, store, bottle, distribute, and sell up to 75,000 gallons of beer a year and allows businesses to advertise their product as “Connecticut Craft Beer.”
