Ranking Member of the Transportation Committee Rep. Carney offered his thoughts on a common-sense amendment by House Republicans to avoid this tax by returning transportation revenue streams currently being diverted into the General Fund back into the Special Transportation Fund (STF) where they were intended to be.
Rep. Carney said “We’ve seen how this tax has been in other states and it was repealed in 20 of them. That shows us that this doesn’t work. We know its failed and yet here we are trying to pass what could be a failure and I’m very concerned that we’ll be back here in 5 years saying we probably shouldn’t have done that. Yet here we are jamming this emergency certification bill because we want to try and potentially get 90M from these trucks when the reality could be a lot less than that and majority of which would come directly from CT residents.”
