Rep. Carney Stands for Stronger Solar Energy Bill

Rep. Carney Stands for Stronger Solar Energy Bill

On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, State Representative Devin Carney (R-23), joined solar workers and solar supporters from across the state in attending a press conference outside the State Capitol in Hartford to call for strengthening Senate Bill 9, An Act Concerning Connecticut’s Energy Future.

Although Senate Bill 9 includes a number of proposals with important implications for Connecticut’s energy future, the basic framework contains significant flaws that will not create the viable, successful structure that Connecticut needs.

The bill caps solar below today’s current levels, eliminates net metering which is largely responsible for 25,000 home solar installations and over two thousand jobs, and blocks the use of battery storage technology that businesses need to lower their high electric bills. Ultimately it is important that the legislature preserve net metering and ensure rate payers are able to continue to reduce electricity they purchase from utility companies and save money.

“We need legislation that will protect solar and net metering and ensure that we craft policies to ensure Connecticut has a vibrant workforce ready to carry it to a cleaner future,” said Rep. Carney. “As many residents know, energy prices and the cost-of-living are extremely high in Connecticut, so the focus should be to pass polices that help ratepayers save money while also improving our environment and increasing green job creation.”

“Our energy policy is our future, so Connecticut should plan for a brighter tomorrow that benefits our environment, benefits our workforce, and benefits the people of Connecticut,” added Rep. Carney.
