Lawmakers Applaud State Grant for Old Saybrook

Area legislators are applauding the announcement of a new $200,000 state grant for Old Saybrook to help the town redevelop the easternmost corridor of Route 1 (Mariner’s Way) into a boulevard of reinvigorated marine and recreation uses.

“This is wonderful news for the town of Old Saybrook,” Rep. Devin Carney said. “Mariner’s Way has been an eyesore in town for a long time and is in desperate need of redevelopment, and this grant will help reinvigorate the area. I’d like to thank all those who worked diligently to secure this competitive grant, including the state of Connecticut for all its supportive efforts.”

“We appreciate the state’s attention to Old Saybrook’s needs,” Sen. Art Linares said.  “Restoring polluted sites to productive use benefits our environment while improving our business climate.”

“The state recognizes that brownfield remediation is a common sense policy,” Sen. Paul Formica said.  “We are thankful for this focus on Route 1, the main small business artery in our region.  We will continue to be strong voices in Hartford for these pro-business, pro-environment policies that will produce return on investment.
