On Wednesday, September 23, The Friends of the Westbrook Barrier Islands recognized Representative Devin Carney as an “Environmental Champion”.
Representative Carney and Senator Art Linares received the award for assisting The Friends of Westbrook Barrier Islands in requesting the CT DEEP to develop a management plan for Duck Island, which is under the state’s ownership.
“This is a such a great honor”, said Representative Carney, who is a member of the Environment Committee. “I grew up admiring these three islands and I am truly humbled to be recognized by a group dedicated to their preservation; these volunteers are doing great work. I truly thank them for this and I will continue to be a strong advocate for the Long Island Sound – its cleanliness, its natural beauty, and its ability to be an economic driver for the 23rd District.”
Dedicated to the three barrier islands in Westbrook, Salt Island, Menunketesuk Island, and Duck Island, The Friends of Westbrook Barrier Islands Group has the following mission statement:
“The Friends of Westbrook Barrier Islands are dedicated to promote the preservation, restoration, education and recreation opportunities of these unique islands and harbor of Westbrook, Connecticut while balancing the use by people with the protection of the wildlife.”
