I have been getting some excellent questions about the virtual public hearing process. All committees have their own rules on how each hearing is conducted. However, there are a few basics you should know about testifying virtually:

  • Bill information can be found at cga.ct.gov
  • Each bill will indicate what committee the bill is being considered by and when it is being heard
  • Find the committee webpage by using the top navigation bar on the CGA website
  • The committee page will have a link to its public hearing information

Committee members read all pieces of testimony that are submitted on a bill. Telling your story is one of the most powerful ways to influence the legislature. Here are some tips on writing testimony:

  • Tell the committee members how the new law would impact you
  • Follow the instructions and submit to the committee directly
  • Be sure to copy me in the CC line of the email, so I can make sure the committee received the testimony
  • Follow instructions to sign-up through zoom.

The public hearing process is long. I certainly encourage you to testify remotely, but submitting written testimony is also sufficient for the committee’s consideration.
