HARTFORD – State Rep. Billy Buckbee (R-New Milford), who serves as the Ranking Member to the Energy & Technology Committee, opposed a new tax that would be placed on end-use wireless products, like cell phones and tablets. This tax, originating from H.B. 5446 – AN ACT CONCERNING FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY ACCESS TELEVISION, THE CONNECTICUT TELEVISION NETWORK AND LOW-INCOME INTERNET ACCESS – would be used to create a new revenue stream for public access entities.
Buckbee opposed the bill when it was considered by the committee, citing the fact that Connecticut residents simply cannot afford any new forms of taxation. You can watch his comments from committee by clicking here.
