Rep. Buchsbaum Celebrates $1 million grant for Roxbury Ambulance Building Expansion

Roxbury, CT – Local and state officials gathered in Roxbury on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, to celebrate a $1 million Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant awarded to the town for the Roxbury Volunteer Ambulance Building.
State Representative Jason Buchsbaum (R-69) and Sen. Eric Berthel (R-32) were on hand for the announcement, joining Lt. Governor Susan Bysiewicz, First Selectman Patrick Roy, and members of Roxbury Ambulance.

“This project will result in a much-needed expansion of the existing firehouse through the construction of an addition, which will allow for all ambulance vehicles to be housed in one place. This is an important public safety enhancement for the town. Thank you to the Roxbury Ambulance Association for your dedicated service to the community,” said Rep. Buchsbaum.
The grant is part of a package of $30 million awarded to 46 small towns in Connecticut that will be used to complete a wide variety of infrastructure improvements, such as road safety reconstruction projects, emergency management upgrades, sidewalk and pedestrian safety enhancements, educational and recreational facility upgrades, and other kinds of capital improvement projects.
“This $1 million STEAP grant is terrific news for the Town of Roxbury and the Roxbury Ambulance Association. This investment enables the association to make key improvements to its facility that involves brand new garages for equipment and vehicles. This addition benefits all residents because emergencies can arise at any time. I am proud to stand with this dedicated team that serves our community with such professionalism and selflessness,” said Sen. Berthel.

The Small Town Economic Assistance Program is managed by the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management (OPM) that delivers grants to small towns for economic development, community conservation, and quality-of-life capital projects.
The Town of Roxbury submitted an application to the state earlier this year and the funding was approved by the State Bond Commission.
