HARTFORD—State Representative Jason Buchsbaum (R-Southbury) on Wednesday released the following statement in response to the House of Representatives vote on the reappointment of Marissa Gillett as chairman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA), which cleared the chamber by a 91-52 tally, with 7 Democrats joining 45 House Republicans in opposition:
“The high cost of energy is the number one issue that residents reach out to me about. I voted against confirming Chair Gillett to another term because the status quo is not working as electricity costs remain unaffordable with no relief in sight. Ratepayers deserve better.
Energy affordability needs to be a top priority, especially as ratepayers have suffered from massive increases to the Public Benefits Charge (PBC) while already paying some of the highest electricity rates in the Country. I have advocated throughout this session for proposals to lower energy costs, including removal of the PBC from utility bills. These charges are nothing more than a hidden tax.
I will continue to advocate for lower energy costs and removal of the PBC from rate bills throughout this session.”
