Carpino Invites CT Veterans to Testify at Public Hearing Re: Veterans Home

HARTFORD- State Rep. Christie Carpino (Cromwell & Portland) announced the Program Review and Investigations (PRI) committee will be having a public hearing on her proposal to examine the operations of the Connecticut State Veterans’ Home in Rocky Hill in Hartford on October 1st.

Carpino, in her capacity as the Ranking Member of the Program Review and Investigations committee, advocated for her study on the Connecticut State Veterans’ Home, after months of inquiries and concerns voiced to her from constituents.

On October 1st, the Program Review and Investigations (PRI) committee will convene to receive a staff update earlier in the day and then host the initial public hearing in the Legislative Office Building in Hartford at 2:00pm. Carpino expects to tour the facility in the near future and speak to residents personally.

The Program Review and Investigations committee will examine the current delivery of services by at the Connecticut Department of Veterans’ Affairs to ensure its residential services are delivered fairly and adequately. They will also assess processes for admitting, discharging, and transferring residents, as well as resolving residents’ complaints and implementing conduct rules, will be highlighted.

“I have heard from veterans across Connecticut who want their voices heard on their treatment at the Veterans Home. This public hearing will be their opportunity to express their concerns and suggestions. Our veterans have given so much and we have an obligation help them when they are in need. They were there for us and we need to be there for them,” Rep. Carpino.
