Zullo Demands Accountability on Utility Payments – SB 149

Posted on March 1, 2024

(HARTFORD) — During a Planning and Development Committee meeting, Ranking Member and State Representative Joe Zullo (R-East Haven), notably responded to concerns on Senate Bill 149: An Act Concerning Foreclosure, Assignment and other Enforcement Actions for Unpaid Sewer Assessments and other Fees and Charges. This bill would make it impossible to collect back sewer liens from delinquent property owners for 5 years or until their accounts reach a balance of $4,000.

Zullo stated, “This proposal sends the message that it’s OK to not pay your bills, which is a terrible message to be endorsing. Government should be there as a safety net and not a way of life. Right now, we have meaningful energy assistance and other programs in place to help residents make ends meet when they fall on difficult times. Let’s explore these resources instead of pushing this irresponsible legislation.”
