Last year, House Republicans offered a budget adjustment proposal that would have addressed the $280 million Medicaid overrun costs by staying WITHIN the fiscal guardrails. Unfortunately, some of my colleagues on the other side of the aisle rejected our stable proposal, leaving these same costs to linger until TODAY. Now, we are forced to spend money OUTSIDE our spending guardrails to address this issue, opening the door to other spending problems down the road.
I stood against this bill because this was a manufactured crisis that could have been avoided if we had done something last year. Sadly, some lawmakers prefer spending recklessly and disregarding fiscal security than working across the aisle to help our hardworking taxpayers.
