Groundbreaking of the 1-megawatt Greenskies solar farm in East Haven

Regarding the groundbreaking of the 1-megawatt Greenskies solar farm in East Haven scheduled for Wednesday, December 17th, 2019 at 2:00PM, State Representative Joe Zullo released the following:
“I’d like to thank Mayor Carfora and his team for seeing this project over the finish line and for extending an invitation to me to join in the groundbreaking for this exciting initiative. Unfortunately, I will likely be unable to attend, as I will be in the capitol for a special session which has been scheduled to address a number of pressing matters,” said Zullo.
Rep. Zullo added, “I am a firm believer that we should strive to be good stewards of the environment and I am proud to have worked alongside Mayor Maturo, Sal Brancati, and now Mayor Carfora to initiate and bring the Greenskies solar farm project to fruition.”
Rep. Zullo explained, “In addition to the environmental benefits of the solar farm, the project will net the Town $240,000.00 dollars in lease payments directly from Greenskies. Thanks to virtual net metering legislation which I supported and which was signed into law this past session, the Town will also have the opportunity to purchase the energy produced by the solar farm at a reduced rate for use by high energy-using facilities like the Town’s ice rink and high school. By purchasing the energy and using it to offset the Town’s energy bills, taxpayers stand to save hundreds of thousands of dollars on the Town’s electric costs over the life of the project.”
Rep. Zullo noted, “Although the project is beginning with a 1-wegawatt array, it is my recollection that the project could ultimately expand to as large as 5-megawatts. If fully expanded and developed, the savings to taxpayers could easily grow into the millions.”
“I commend Mayor Carfora for seeing this worthwhile project through to completion and I am proud of the positive impact it will have on both the environment and on the Town’s bottom line,” Zullo concluded.
