A Post-Session Thank You

Having finished my first legislative session at 11:59 p.m. on June 5th, I wanted to take the opportunity to once again thank all of the residents of East Haven for entrusting me with the awesome responsibility of serving as our community’s State Representative in Hartford.

The long days and late nights were trying at times. There were certainly occasions during the past three months that I missed events in town that I wish I could have attended and I appreciate residents’ understand the demands of this new job. However, the experience was entirely humbling and I am proud of the work I was able to undertake in our capitol on behalf of our community.

Unfortunately, thanks to Governor Lamont and the majority party, Connecticut will see $1.7 billion in new taxes over the next two years, including $50 million in new taxes on small businesses and an expansion of taxes on things like digital downloads and safety apparel. Under the Governor’s “tax and spend” budget, residents will now pay an extra 1% tax at restaurants and nearly every employee will give up another half-percent of their weekly paycheck to a new payroll tax to fund a top-heavy, poorly laid out “family medical leave program.”

As we head into the summer, I anticipate being called into a special session to vote on the highly-controversial issue of tolling our highways. I encourage residents to continue to reach out to me with their questions and concerns on tolls, along with and any other issue impacting our community.

Moving forward, I will continue fighting to bring fiscal sanity back to Hartford and to make our State an affordable place to live, work, and raise a family.
