SUFFIELD– State Rep. Tami Zawistowski was among those who today helped kick off the construction of a new entrance at Kent Memorial Library that will be named in honor of former Suffield High School teacher and library supporter Mary Anne Zak. A groundbreaking ceremony billed as “One last chance to climb the hill!” was held for the project, which Zak has helped fund.

The “Mary Anne Zak Entrance” will be Americans with Disabilities Act compliant, and because it eliminates the troublesome hill along Bank Lane library patrons will be able to enter at street level and then take either stairs or an elevator en route to getting inside.

The project includes additional parking, too. There will be updates to the heating ventilation, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing systems, and existing windows will be replaced with energy efficient glass.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2015.
