Rep. Tami Zawistowski and state Sen. John A. Kissel applauded the state’s announcement today that Suffield is being awarded $800,000 for local affordable housing revitalization projects.

The Suffield Housing Authority wants to replace roofs at Laurel Court and Broder Place, replace windows and doors at Broder Place and Maple Court, update kitchens and bathrooms and upgrade two units for handicapped accessibility. Together, the projects will impact 73 units of housing.

“We are always looking to make sure our local housing units are as safe and as accessible as they can be,” Sen. Kissel said. “Rehabilitating these units is excellent news for the frail and elderly in Suffield, and we thank state officials for this award.”

“This investment in these housing communities will have a significant impact in the lives of residents whose quality of life depends on safe and reliable accommodations,” Rep. Zawistowski said. “I’m sure people throughout Suffield will be thrilled by this news.”

The funds come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program, which provides grants to eligible municipalities for economic development, affordable housing, community facilities and other revitalization projects. The program is administered by Connecticut’s Department of Housing.
