SUFFIELD – State Representatives Tami Zawistowski (R-61) and Christopher Davis (R-57) toured the HP Hood Ice Cream Division in Suffield with Plant Manager Peter Fabbri on Monday, August 26th.

Hood was founded in Massachusetts in 1846 by Harvey Perley Hood and has grown into a company that sells a variety of dairy products nationwide and operates 13 manufacturing plants mostly in the Northeast.

“These visits with local companies, large and small, have been a great opportunity to hear directly from businesses about their concerns with both legislation and new regulations,” said Rep. Zawistowski. “I was excited to learn that all of Hood’s ice cream is made here at the plant in Suffield and much of the dairy is sourced from regional producers. Plant Manager Peter Fabbri was a wealth of knowledge and an enthusiastic tour guide who has worked in ice cream production since his college days at the UCONN Dairy Bar. ”

The Suffield factory was opened in 1965 and currently produces Hood brand ice cream, private label ice cream, and Lactaid products. The 153,000 square foot facility currently employs 85 workers from surrounding communities in North Central Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Rep. Davis noted, “It was helpful to hear from them about the impact new labor laws, tax changes, and energy policy will have on their factory here in North Central Connecticut and Hood’s business decisions within their greater New England footprint.”
