HARTFORD – on Friday, January 22nd State Representative Tami Zawistowski (R-61) was named Vice-Chairperson of the General Assembly’s bi-partisan Arts, Culture and Tourism Caucus. The caucus works to promote polices to improve Connecticut’s tourism and hospitality economy.

“Our caucus is dedicated to growing this sector of the economy and making attractions in Connecticut destinations for travelers,” said Rep. Zawistowski. “Tourism and hospitability have been especially hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic and government restrictions. Our immediate focus is helping these businesses and venues get back on their feet quickly as the pandemic subsides.”

Rep. Zawistowski has been a strong advocate for tourism in North Central Connecticut and championed efforts with the Department of Economic and Community Development to re-open Old Newgate Prison and Copper Mine.

“Our region is an important gateway for travel and tourism for the rest of the state. In addition to hosting the state’s largest airport, we have many attractions including historic homes, farms, forests, and truly one of a kind sites like Old Newgate Prison,” noted Rep. Zawistowski

The caucus is chaired by State Senator Paul Formica (R-20) and State Representative Dorinda Borer (D-115) and State Senator Jorge Cabrera (D-17) will serve as vice-chair alongside Rep. Zawistowski.
