SUFFIELD – State Representative Tami Zawistowski (R-61) recently attended Aces High, FIRST Robotics Team 176’s annual robotics scrimmage at Suffield High School.
Aces High is a joint robotics team comprised of students from Suffield and Windsor Locks High Schools, and is supported by the Hamilton Sundstrand company of Windsor Locks, Connecticut.
“This scrimmage is always a great opportunity for students to put their hard work and determination to the test before entering a formal competition,” said Zawistowski. “I am always amazed to see the progress and advancement from year to year exhibited by these schools. The success and expansion of this annual scrimmage is a true testament to the hard work by event organizers and, of course, the students involved.”
The 17th annual scrimmage hosted by Aces High drew over thirty teams from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. Each year, FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) conducts a robotics competition in which students and adult mentors are given six weeks to design and build a fully operational robot around the requirements of each year’s game and with limited materials. The intent of the FIRST robotics program is to inspire high school students to take an interest and active role in scientific activities.
