SUFFIELD – State Representative Tami Zawistowski (R-61) celebrated Read Across America on March 4th, by reading to students at McAlister Intermediate School.
In Mrs. Meyer’s Fourth Grade Class, Rep. Zawistowski read, “Dream Big” by Kat Kronenberg. Students were dressed as their favorite superheroes and the reading was joined by the class pet Mango the bearded dragon.
The annual tradition, promoted by the National Education Association (NEA), began in 1998 as a way to promote early childhood literacy and commemorate Dr. Seuss’ birthday.
“I had a great time reading to Mrs. Meyer’s enthusiastic students,” said Rep. Zawistowski. “It was a pleasure to share my love of books and reading with the class and I hope these students will develop a lifelong love of learning.”

According to its website, the NEA seeks to build a nation of readers through its signature program, NEA’s Read Across America. For more information about this great event please visit www.nea.org/readacross.
