As part of the New Haven- Hartford- Springfield (NHHS) Rail Program, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting in Windsor concerning improvements at existing grade crossings and the Batchelder Road Bridge. The meeting will be on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Windsor Town Hall, 275 Broad Street, Windsor, Connecticut.

Improvements to the existing at-grade rail crossings at Meadow Street, East Barber Street, Island Road and Central Street in Windsor include installation of new pedestrian and four quadrant gates or median islands (specific locations), and wayside horns. There will also be roadway and at the grade crossings.  The existing grade crossing at Wilson Avenue will be closed.

Improvements at Batchelder Road include a complete replacement of the bridge deck to support the installation of the second track and to provide increase vertical clearance under the railroad bridge.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2016 and be completed in late 2017.  The approximate cost of the work is $5,200,000 and is funded by the Federal Rail Administration, the State of Connecticut and Amtrak.

Plans will be available for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss these projects.  More detailed information is available at Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Mr. Eric Bergeron, Project Engineer, at (860) 594-3152.  Plans will also be available for review in the Town Engineer’s Office in Windsor.

All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the projects with Department personnel.
