We would like to thank everyone who joined us for coffee and conversation this past Saturday. These open forums are part of our ongoing effort to be accessible and share news from the Capitol and address concerns. As your legislators it is important for us to hear from you.

This year the General Assembly is convened in a ‘short’ regular session that adjourns on May 9th. The biggest issue of concern is the projected budget deficit.

Last year after long negotiations a compromise budget was passed that included important long term changes, a constitutional spending cap, a cap on bonding and a revenue volatility cap. These changes will help our budget picture in the long term. However, there is more work to do to get our state’s finances on track.

The budget agreement also established a commission on Fiscal Stability and Economic Growth, comprised financial professionals and community advocates, this group published its report on March 1st. The legislature is currently reviewing its recommendations.

Anyone who was unable to attend should feel free to reach out to us to share questions, comments and concerns, reach us via phone 860-240-8700 or via email Scott.Storms@housegop.ct.gov or Tami.Zawistowski@housegop.ct.gov.
