Hartford – Before an afternoon meeting with legislative leaders Thursday September 28, Governor Malloy vetoed the bi-partisan budget prolonging the state’s budget crisis. The budget was passed by 21-15 in the Senate after three Democrat senators joined their Republican colleagues and passed the house 77-73-1 with five Democrats joining the other side of the aisle.

Representative Zawistowski commented, “The budget vetoed by the governor was the only proposal that had the votes to pass the legislature. Though it was not a perfect document, it was balanced, responsible, kept commitments to schools, the most vital parts of our social safety net and to our cities and towns, at the same time it made structural changes to help bring more stability to future budgets. I am very concerned about what this veto will mean for local education, including special education, and municipal aid. We need to override this veto.”
