WINDSOR – State Representative Tami Zawistowski (R-61) recently attended a ceremony for the renaming of the I-91 Bloomfield Avenue Overpass as, “The Windsor Volunteer Firefighter Memorial Overpass”.
The name change executed by the Department of Transportation (DOT) honors the long history of service of Windsor’s current and former volunteer firefighters that have been protecting the town since 1830.
“It was my honor to provide replica sign from DOT to the Windsor Volunteer Fire Department. It’s a wonderful tribute to the dedication and sacrifices of the men and women of the department – and their families,” said Rep. Zawistowski.
The legislation to name the bridge was introduced by Rep. Zawistowski in January and was incorporated into a larger Transportation Committee bill that was passed by the General Assembly and signed by the Governor. The name change was first brought forward as a request to former State Representative Scott Storms in 2018, however bridge namings are only taken up during “long” legislative session during odd-numbered years.
