“This was my third trip to the facility since they first opened, and each visit has shown not only increased use of robotics but more human employees as well. We met with site managers but also had the opportunity to talk directly with the people who work there,” said Rep. Zawistowski. “It has been a good company to have here locally and has increased opportunities for Bradley Airport.”

The facility known as “BDL2” was first opened in 2016 and covers 1.2 million square feet, the size of roughly 28 football fields. There are roughly 1,800 fulltime employees working three shifts and 4,000 robots.

“Even with the use of Amazon’s robotic and computer software technologies, the company is hiring hundreds employees more this year, including a number from our district. I was also impressed to learn more about their workforce training initiatives,” noted Rep. Davis. “In addition to the workers the company directly employs across the state, there is a wider economic impact from contractors and local vendors using Amazon’s services.”

Half of the inventory at the fulfillment center is from small and medium sized companies and vendors with Amazon handling the shipping and logistics. More than 24,000 authors, sellers and developers in Connecticut are utilizing Amazon services and products to reach their customers.

Across Connecticut, the company operates an additional fulfilment center in North Haven, a sortation center in Wallingford, a delivery station in Bristol and an air hub in Hartford.
