HARTFORD–State Rep. There’s talk about creating a Constitutionally-protected lock box to block the legislature from raiding transportation money to balance the budget. Would you support that proposal if it came without specifics defining where the money would come from, what money would go into the lock box, and how it would be used?

    Individual Comments from Survey Respondents:

Very much against tolls and more taxes on fuel (we give fossil fuels subsidies already!!

    —-

Put up tolls on 95 as a tax on gambling and do whatever it takes to avoid another Mia is bridge tragedy.

    —-

You need to stop hiking taxes and fees to residents to further more and more spending. We like so many others are starting to look at relocating out of this state as we are forced to spend far too much of our pay on taxes of all forms. Start cutting government spending. You can’t solve every problem with a tax hike.

    —-

The CAA’s desire to put a casino at BDL in the terminal area is ridiculous. Why would we want to increase congestion and complicate security issues at our most important transportation center??

    —-

de unionize the DOT, don’t raise taxes. already driving industry away

    —-

CT cannot keep making it more expensive to live and work here. People are just about at the breaking point.

    —-

Expand rail service – from airport to Hartford, Hartford to Springfield MA. Windsor Locks needs a proper enclosed shelter for passengers to wait, with wifi & telephone services. Bus service – there needs to be a stop in East Granby, not just Granby – the bus goes right thru EG & doesnt stop!

    —-

I do not support asking CT residents to continually increase their financial support to a state that continually spends money it doesn’t have. For example, the new Hartford baseball stadium. It is this thinking and over taxation that has driven me to look at leaving the state. The other issue I have with transportation is the high number of people who drive excessively fast (> 80 Mph) and or with little concern for their fellow citizens. There is little police presence on 91. To me this is the most important issue. Don’t advertise speed traps sporadically through the year. Make safe driving a culture within the state.

Open up use of the HOV lanes, they are under used.

    —-

The residence in this state pay enough in taxes start by fixing the handouts

    —-

Ot os my opinion that CT highways are in better shape than in other states. I think it is important to maintain safe roads. Its cities like Hartford that have huge potholes. Its not safe for people to be stranded in Hartford after they get a flat tire in a risky neighborhood. Lets shift the focus to communities in need of help and improve their traffic flow for the sake of residents AND business.

    —-

Leave sales tax off the table. I directly affects employers and costs of staffing. Go back to the taxes that were put in place for transportation and roads/bridges. Put those in a lockbox like they should have been before misappropriating them. Stop increasing taxes!!!!! More taxes equal less jobs as employers and employees leave the state. Pretty soon we will be a ghost town state.

Free up funds by cutting spending in other areas. Time to make some hard choices. Maybe if the political landscape in Hartford shifts, with a new majority, we can observe true leadership.

In the past, the State DOT has wasted hundreds of millions on a busway to nowhere (which is being manipulated every day to give appearance of success) and the creation of HOV lanes that are underutilized. In addition, there is incredible amount of taxpayer waste on EVERY DOT project throughout the State. Better control of funding is needed and better oversight of projects is a must.

    NO NEW TAXES!!

Raising gas tax just sends more people to Ma.
