Rep. Weir Meets with Elementary Students from Andover

Key Takeaways

  • Lawmaker Highlighted his role as a state representative and what drove him to get involved in politics

I was asked by a third grader today what is the best part of my job as a state legislator.  My answer to him was simple, this!

Today, I talked with Mrs. Godwin's third grade class at Andover Elementary School about what its like being a lawmaker, why I chose to get involved (felt the current admin wasn't listening to the people our laws impact), did I ever get my own bill passed (1st this session), my favorite color (blue), and how do I help our state (one way is by ensuring our laws don't unintentionally negatively impact our residents) to name a few. After our Q & A, I had an opportunity to read "Duck for President" to the students as well.

My visit coincided with Election Day tomorrow and recent lessons they've had about the Constitution, congress, branches of government, and state and federal representation. The students were excellent listeners, engaged, and eager to learn. They invited me to eat lunch with them, but unfortunately, I had to go back to work. I did however promise I'd come back for pizza!
