Labor Committee House Ranking Member Rep. Weir Statement on Democrats’ Proposed Paid Sick Days Expansion

Posted on March 19, 2024

HARTFORD—State Rep. Steve Weir (R-Hebron), House Ranking Member of the Labor Committee, released the following statement Tuesday in response to the call from Governor Lamont and legislative Democrats to expand Connecticut’s paid sick days mandate on businesses:

“The laissez faire attitude from my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to the onerous mandates they continue to push onto our small and large businesses is extremely disturbing. As a small business owner, I know first-hand how difficult these added costs and regulations make owning or operating a company here. I have serious concerns about the financial impact mandating paid sick days will place onto some of our smallest employers. Despite its support by the Governor and Labor Committee majority, these policies will only further move Connecticut behind the rest of the country when it comes to economic growth and business friendliness. The Governor is promoting ‘Make it Here’ but this type of policy shouts make it elsewhere.”

Rep. Weir represents the 55th House District serving residents of Andover, Bolton, Glastonbury, Hebron, and Marlborough.
