House Ranking Member Rep. Weir Statement on Democrats’ Bill to Expand Paid Sick Days

Posted on April 23, 2024

HARTFORDState Representative Steve Weir (R-Hebron), House Ranking Member of the Labor and Public Employees Committee, release the following statement in expectation of a vote on the House floor on Thursday.

“With the institution of more policies that overregulate the actions of our small businesses, Democrats on the Labor Committee continue to show how disconnected they are from our small business community,” Rep. Weir said. “It’s these highly regulatory types of mandates forced onto our small businesses that prohibit entrepreneurship, financially handcuff expansion, and ultimately push Connecticut further behind much of the country when it comes to economic growth and overall affordability.  I don’t know why any business would come to Connecticut or expand here when our regulations clearly are not supportive of business.  It’s my assumption that the proponents of this concept have never started, owned or operated a business.”

Rep. Weir represents the 55th House District serving the residents of Andover, Bolton, Glastonbury, Hebron, and Marlborough.
