Local Organization Works with Volunteers to Ensure Care Packages Make it to Troops Serving Overseas

Key Takeaways

  • Volunteers Come Together to Straighten Out Shipping Mishap

The old saying that "it takes a village" couldn’t have been truer today. After 800 out of 1,100 care packages destined for our troops serving in countries overseas were returned due to a problem with the toiletry labeling, dozens of volunteers showed up to add new labels and prepare these boxes for the post office in hopes that they make it to their destinations by Christmas.

Today's press conference at their headquarters shows just how much national attention this issue has gotten and how important it is to correct for our troops. I'm thankful for Senator Blumenthal's office taking my call and joining us in making this right.

Over the last couple of legislative sessions, I've introduced a bill that would have allocated money to help cover the cost of shipping these packages to our troops. My hope is that U.S. Senator Blumenthal can help champion that concept at the federal level so that we can assist organizations like Boxes to Boots in their effort to bring holiday cheer to our troops serving overseas.
