On Saturday, I had the extreme honor of being in attendance for the Woody Williams Gold Star Families Memorial Monument dedication at Berlin’s Veteran’s Memorial Park.

This monument will forever serve as a tribute to the Gold Star Families in Connecticut and a reminder to the sacrifices our veterans and their families have made in the name of the freedom.

People from all over our state and region will visit this site and remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We honor you and are forever indebted to your service on behalf of our great country.

This monument came to fruition because of the hard work of so many individuals. Some contributed to the construction and others behind the scenes to see this monument standing here in Berlin. Special thanks to our local veterans’ organizations, the Town of Berlin, the Parks and Recreation and Public Grounds Departments, Tilcon CT for donating all the cement, Charles Paonessa and Dura Construction for donating his time and labor, representatives from the Woody Williams Foundation, Connecticut Gold Star Families Memorial Monument Committee, Picture This on Granite who helped design the monument, Peter Galgano, Helen Keiser-Pedersen, Charles Colaresi, Berlin Mayor Mark Kaczynski, and so many many many others.

The Gold Star Family Memorial was created by Hershel “Woody” Williams, a Medal of Honor Recipient. The memorial serves as a remembrance of those families who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Rep. Veach Tours Local Library, Learns More About their Programs and Services

Libraries have evolved quite significantly from the traditional card catalogs, microfiche, cold and quiet places they were for many of us growing up. Today, these spaces have been transformed into vibrant community gathering spaces for people of all ages. Yesterday, I had a chance to tour the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library and see the evolution that […]
