HARTFORD – State Representatives Donna Veach (R-Berlin) and John Fusco (R-Southington) teamed up with elementary school students in Berlin and Southington to provide local veterans with cards on Valentine’s Day.

Students from Southington Catholic School, South End, Kelly and Derynoski Elementary Schools in Southington and Griswold and Hubbard Elementary Schools in Berlin participated in the collection. The lawmakers were able to collect several hundred cards as a result of the incredible participation to drop off at the Department of Veterans Affairs in Rocky Hill.

“The success of this event is one-hundred percent due to the students, teachers, administrators, and schools who have participated in it,” Rep. Veach said. “I was honored to have been a part of it and to represent communities who were so willing to show a little bit of kindness to our veterans on Valentine’s Day.”

“We were thrilled by the great participation in Valentine’s for Veterans this year. The success of this tradition is made possible by the support of our schools, their administrations and teachers, and especially the students who design the cards for our veterans,” Rep. Fusco said. “I believe this is a valuable way for our younger generation to learn about the sacrifices which our veterans make for us, and to express their gratitude at the same time.”

Libraries have evolved quite significantly from the traditional card catalogs, microfiche, cold and quiet places they were for many of us growing up. Today, these spaces have been transformed into vibrant community gathering spaces for people of all ages. Yesterday, I had a chance to tour the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library and see the evolution that […]
