HARTFORD – A bill introduced by State Representative Donna Veach (R-30) to allow for temporary auction permits to consign, purchase, and broker wine, beer and spirits at live and online auctions has received overwhelming bipartisan support from the House of Representatives.

The bill introduced by Representative Veach at the request of a constituent, HB-6048, An Act Establishing a Liquor Auction Permit was included into a larger General Law Committee bill, HB-6458, An Act Concerning the Department of Consumer Protection’s Recommendations Regarding Alcohol Liquor Regulations.

Ryan Brechlin, a constituent of Rep. Veach’s and auctioneer, and partner at Nest Egg Auctions in Southington said that auctioneers currently have no way of selling or consigning these types of items once acquired to interested collectors.

“It’s great when local government works for the people and I’m grateful for Donna’s help in creating and getting this bill passed,” Brechlin said.

“I was happy to work with Ryan on this initiative,” Rep. Veach said. “It’s a bill that is mutually beneficial to both the businesses and for those purchasing these items by taking advantage of an opportunity that is out there. It is win-win for everyone involved.”

The bill has been placed on the Senate calendar and awaits further action. If passed, it would then move onto the governor’s desk for his signature.

Libraries have evolved quite significantly from the traditional card catalogs, microfiche, cold and quiet places they were for many of us growing up. Today, these spaces have been transformed into vibrant community gathering spaces for people of all ages. Yesterday, I had a chance to tour the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library and see the evolution that […]
