HARTFORD – State Representative Donna Veach (R-30) has taken the oath-of-office for her second full term representing the 30th General Assembly District which includes the towns of Berlin and Southington.

For the 2023-2024 legislative session, Rep. Veach has been newly named Ranking Member of the Internship Committee by House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora. The purpose of the Internship Committee is to acquaint college students with both the formal and informal aspects of the legislative process through first-hand experience in the legislative offices.

“Due to the pandemic all of the first-term traditions that surround the first day of session were quite different so having the opportunity to experience it for the first time this session was special, I had goosebumps,” said Rep. Veach. “I am excited to be embarking on a new year with a whole wealth of knowledge and experience I gained over my last term and I’m eager to pair that experience with my professional experience to work on behalf of the residents not just in my district, but across Connecticut.”

Rep. Veach will also serve as a member of the Environment, Judiciary, and Finance Committees

Wednesday’s ceremony kicked off the start of the legislature’s “long session” which runs from January 4 through June 7. Connecticut’s legislature is part-time, with regular sessions held from January to June in odd-numbered years, and from February to May in even-numbered years. The “long session” is used to establish a state budget and introduce bills of a general nature. In the even-year “short session” the legislature can only consider bills directly related to the state budget, revenue, and financial matters, as well as committee bills or resolutions, and those matters certified to be of an emergency nature.

Representative Veach can be reached at Donna.Veach@housegop.ct.gov, or by calling (860) 240-8700.

Rep. Veach Tours Local Library, Learns More About their Programs and Services

Libraries have evolved quite significantly from the traditional card catalogs, microfiche, cold and quiet places they were for many of us growing up. Today, these spaces have been transformed into vibrant community gathering spaces for people of all ages. Yesterday, I had a chance to tour the Berlin-Peck Memorial Library and see the evolution that […]
